Creative Thinking

Term break was here..time for…more proj meetings..sigh..despite CNY..Had to grind my way thru..not forgettin stats mid term tmr..hai..wat is wrong with my profs this sem..everyone is into tinkin that their module is the onli one we’re takin..they say which prof u get is veri veri impt..n now..i’m learnin it the hard way..

Creative Thinking Class was comin to an end as we present our Creative Thinking Exhibition…lookin bac..it was one of the more interesting mods really..esp when we hav a hm.. ‘veri open’ prof that speaks her mind on everythin.. like e first lesson where she sits in front of the class, crosses her legs n go.. “If my panties r revealing..pls let me know..the last thing I wan is for students to complain abt prof showin her panties..” n immediately we went into stun mode..dats..openness for u..lol..

But its really quite interesting as we frequently hav our classes outside the class rooms..n we often find ourselves in the art museum..the national museum..religious temples..sculpture square..n so on..n even if it was in class..we would be talking abt paintings..n stories behind it.. privilege of havin a city campus..

Each of Margarat Chan’s class hav to end the term with exhibitions of certain statements n issues we wanted to send across..u can either express it as an installation art or a performance art..which we eventually opted for the latter..

We had a mini soccer field constructed along the concourse outside kopitiam n on the set..we had 2 teams playin soccer. My team was all in red office wear as we were signifying Singaporean workers..n the opposing team was all in black with their faces n limbs painted black to represent the everyday challenges that workers face in the work place..

There were a lot of details into the art that we had to spend countless sessions planning for..n while playin..the red shirt Singaporean workers r one by one substituted by players wearin other national colours..this was to signify displacement in the local workplace whereby a lot of jobs are being replaced with foreign talents. Goals were continued to be scored as Singapore continues to be successful no matter the composition of the work force..we’re not takin sides as to whether displacement is right or wrong as it is up to the individual to judge..thats y..the game ended by half time..n not full time..as no one has the right to adequately conclude if it is a gd thing or not..

Team Singapore

But personally..i feel it makes no difference as displacement gears us up for improvement n upgrading..a criteria that is set to stay with us no matter wat yr it is due to the size of our c’try..if Singaporeans dun upgrade..we will fall behind in no time at all..the foreign talents r jus here to remind us to be the best in whatever we do..so I am pretty neutral abt it..besides..retrenchment isn’t the end of the world..many ppl found a higher payin job after being retrenched..its jus how u face the situation..retrenchment is restructuring..it doesn’t mean u were lousy or anything..we jus hav to be open abt it..

I was one of the singapore players to be substituted..n part of the plan was to show a mixture of emotions by singapore workers..n my job..was to look pissed n angry..sigh..u ppl got the wrong guy man..how can I look angry?..no one in sch has ever seen me angry..haha..i’ve not been angry since..hm..Sispec?..where they refused to release me initially for my grandpa’s funeral..tsk tsk..i’m too well tempered to be angry la..haha..

Other than margarat chan.. we also had another assessor from N.A.F.A (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts) who’s name..i cant recall..haha..but she was much older than we expected..n prob more experienced..n we had a pretty long debrief..where we were subjected to scrutiny..

But it was fun..though frustratin at times..workin in a grp of 40 is not easy..n being appointed committee jus makes it worse..but well..everythin is harsh in todae’s world..so..suck it up..

Shadows..lol.
