Reciprocity

I'm in mpw class now watching a video about reciprocity with this academic professor from stanford explainin the power of reciprocity and increasing the likelihood of influencing others around us to say yes to things we want them to. and he guaranteed it works.

he cited a research they conducted whereby his co-researcher randomly picked addresses from the phone book and started sending xmas cards to them despite not knowing them. n to their amazement..a ton of xmas cards returned. And this happened for the next 10 years and neither parties knew who each other were!
It was also found that e son of one of the recipients of e cards..had to travel to Arizona (where the cards originated)..n they couldnt find a place for him to stay. Thus e recipient wrote to the professor explaining the case n asked if e son could stay with em..n e reply was yes!

They've nv met.

The professor then went on to cite more cases with e example of Ethiopia sending money to mexico to help relieve the victims in Mexico due to the earthquake in 2007. The world were puzzled and asked.."why did u send e money when ur ppl r starvin n homeless??"

n the ruler of e Ethiopia sat up straight n said.."becos in 1935..when Italy invaded us..Mexico came to our aid..n helped us.."
Despite being 72 years down the road..Ethiopia still felt e obligation to reciprocate and return the goodwill.

He conlcuded that the law of reciprocity exists and if we do good to others, others will do good to us! We shud go out and do good to as many ppl on as many things as possible!

I was sold by the idea for about 5 seconds before i started thinking..

We've been sending money..help..knowledge and technology (esp water tech) to Malaysia and Indonesia (tsunami military and financial relieve). We got nothing but accusations, imported robbery (majority of crime in singapore e last few yrs were by Msians), labelled small red dot and constantly threatened by politicians there.

Reciprocity?? so much for guarantees...

A malaysian who migrated to sweden cos he could no longer stand being in malaysia.
we chatted for close to an hour n he went non stop about how much malaysia sucks n how stupid e govt is. n he held many front of comparison to Singapore n kept saying spore is smart..n we're lucky to be born in singapore. to him..malaysia is one of the worst ctry to be in..

well..in many aspects..i agree..but as a citizen of e small red dot..we're obliged not to comment. haha..

Look at how much they party!

Christiania is a part of town whereby the residents there were commonly classified as outlaws. They run their own rules n they refuse to comply to e danish govt's laws. Fierce fights between them n e police fills their history and they were actually successful in carving out their own turf.

They maintain their own currency dat can be used within Christiania and the exchange rate was 1 danish kronner to 1 christiania kronner. They maintained e worth of e currency by putting away 1 danish kronner for every 1 christiania kronner that they issue. i.e, this is an asset backed currency! haha..e gangsters know finance!

Recall e guy dat was arrested from his car earlier..as we were entering christiania, a gang was rushing out of christiania on their bikes n huge dogs. One of them jumped out over me out of nowhere! after i stared at him..he exclaimed.."our fren is being arrested by e police! we're goin to help him!"

n they continued rushing to e scene. 30 secs after they left..police siren were heard n police reinforcement were rushing to e scene. a few of us including me..kaypo-ed n ran back to e scene too. e police were on one side n e christianians on another..on a standoff. weapons n dogs on one side..guns n cuffs on another. such drama!

They consider themselves out of the EU.

I'm at NUS now. Doing some work and research.

Everytime i visit the other 2 universities (NTU or NUS)...
i feel like i'm moving backwards in civilization.

cos this is where they hav open air carparks..open walkways..
which meant either u melt under the hot sun...or u'r left scrambling under an umbrella in e rain dat cant keep u dry cos u'r realli in e open (which was wad happened jus now).

either way..u'll still be wet..

y cant they build covered walkways here???haha..

The results just get better..

71.53% gain in one day..
i closed position. 71% is much more than i require from one trade.

Market Updates

I apologise for the disruption in blogging but i have been spending many sleepless nites following the US market developments. My heart goes out to those who have their life savings wiped out.

But i strongly feel that the media is much too one sided..focusing only on who and how much was lost in the market. But the truth is, the market is a zero sum game. Every dollar lost in the market is a dollar gain by someone else in the market.

This is my result for last nite..my total holding period was 1 and half hours. It shows that money can still be made and infact..is made faster than non crisis times.

For example...
47.06% over an hour on Goldman Sachs (.GSMA)
$1000 becomes $1470.6...$10000 becomes $14706..in 1 n half hr of trading hours.
(e last time i checked..it rose more than 47%. but i shall leave it as this..since dats wads stated in my print screen)

My fibonnaci retacement forecast for the SPY. Fell more than i expected it to. But that would just mean more money would have been made if i traded it..

Before u run too excited to ask me for a treat..i have to declare that these are results from my virtual trade account. i.e, fake money. No point claiming credit for something i nv really did..
This are the trades i would do..based on my humble and amateur analysis.
I refrained from trading real money since i got caught unprepared by the fed's sudden ban on shorting (selling) of financial stocks. my gut was that many other unexpected and unprecedented announcements will continue to happen and it did.

govt's US$700b bailout plan was suddenly initiated..rejected shockly..n den approved which was the first in history. It was meant to be gd news n yet markets tanked. Then came the global interest rate cuts. for once..my gut was rite..in sayin the govt will do more things we nv knew they could do. And markets jus dun behave like ppl would expect them too.

yet..dere r ppl making millions off the markets rite now. I hence conclude..i need more upgrading..cos i am clearly not making the millions yet. But i shall stop at nth to get there!

Business Study Mission to Scandinavia

I know i know..this blog is covered with dust n is almost ready to be buried. haha..been busy as well as lazy to update..shall start with e summers..

went on a BSM trip with e sch to Scandinavia to visit various companies in the region. btw..did u know that all member ctries of Scandinavia is within the top 15 ctries in e world to do business in??

We flew from Singapore to Amsterdam to catch a transit flight to Stockholm onboard the KLM. I know ur reaction.. "K-L-What?? is it malaysia one? Kuala-Lumpur-Malaysia?" i've nv heard of them b4 too..till the BSM..its a dutch airline. And u prob haven heard of em for a gd reason..

they're not top notch in anyway..haha..but they were e cheapest though..

We arrived on a sunday..n it was pretty much sight seeing for that day..and we visited e Vasa Museum..about a warship dat was built by one of e historic swedish king..which boasted all kinds of capabilities and beauty from sculptures..onli for it to be sank within 15 minutes off it's first voyage due to overloading of canons and gun powder. -_-'.

But e museum was pretty cool as the entire museum was built ard the remains of e wreckage aft it was hauled up from the sea.

Dark Knight

Went to catch dark knight e other day..with faith..my most likely movie partner of late..
but i haven realli been watchin movies too..

I caught Dark Knight..@ Bishan..cos its near..so lazy to travel..n i didnt even know wad it was abt initially..haha..i was never a batman fan..
but i din hate it either. I just wasn't a fan of movies whereby u know e main character can never die. The only exception was Bourne identity/supremacy/ultimatum. But that's because it's interesting to see the way he got past obstacles..displays a lot of intelligence.

Shows like rambo..which to me is more like bimbo or himbo..is darn stupid. Cos e guy can win everyone with bare hands n no fancy gadget or smart thinking. He is just..somehow made of steel. haha..

I thot that Batman will never die..well...he nv did. haha..but there was a lot of twist and there were signs that a new Batman would be born in e movie..which made e plot interesting..
I tink Joker made e movie ultimately interesting..even the way he fights n talks is funny..
"nice to meet u..n here is my card..." *pulls out a joker poker card* hahaha..

but too bad he died. for real. e next joker has a tough job of succeeding him..

e gadgets were cool lookin..but there wasnt much feature abt it though..it was more abt e plot..which understandably attracts female viewers...There was confusion between who the biggest villain was goin to be too..which made it interesting..

but yes..Batman..didnt die again. hahaha..

overall..i tink if u'r a neutral towards batman..its a 'should watch' and if u'r a batman fan.. 'u mean u haven already??'

I'm glad i din catch 'you don't mess with the zohans' on e big screen..i got bored of it in less than an hour..so disappointing..i was hopin for something better.

P.S> To Faith: Thanks for keepin me company when i'm bored or pissed (e other day where we met terrible drivers). And more so..i'm glad u dumped dat prick loser. Pity the new girl..

We ice creamed at cold rock after celebrating weiyuan's bday at hooters..
(we chose hooters..becos..wy jus simply love girls...lol)

i wanted to try exotic flavors..but..none of their's tasted nice..

god knows how many flavors i tested b4 buying! lol..

i chose a mix of cookie n cream + Coffee + Chocolate + Ferrero Rocher

it was a gd mix!

we had e opening ceremony of a small little stairway at a corner near my place..(no idea y it needed a ceremony)..i guess sometimes..u need to show u'r doin somethin..haha..

The guest of honour was the minister of finance cum transport..

Original idea was to keep cars out of town..n to divert them to the outskirts of town.
Aft e cars did wad they wanted em to do..they planted gantries at e outskirts.
n after they forced e cars out of e outskirts of town..they planted gantries in neighborhoods.
(Toa Payoh has a gantry in an area with nth but temple n HDB with no expressway entrance in e vicinity)

next i anticipate..they r goin to plant gantries at e exit of HDB carparks.
The ultimate goal: Allow u to buy car but dun allow u to use. keep em in e carpark.
so as not to displease car sellers but at e same time not build up traffic.

i was in e car with my dad e other day (effective date of new erp charges)..
gantries dat used to be $1.00...are now...$2.50!
gantries dat used to be $2.00...are now...$4.50!

a journey to SMU..cost $9.50! (excluding petrol & parking).

public transport is our solution.

cars r charged..because..it takes up space.
taxi (a form of public transport) r charged..because it takes up space.
Buses (e intended soln for transport) r charged..because it takes up space.

prob in e veri near future..bicycles will be slapped with IU..n charged when u cycle into town..because..
it takes up space.

n in the near but not so near future..humans will be made mandatory by law to carry a IU unit with em n they'll be charged when they enter town too.

Because..humans take up space too.

ALL our needs. taken care. ;)
