Meeting with Poly buds

Met up with e poly gang on the fri of exam week. We went ajitei for jap food which was really good! Qiang has already graduated! I am old..n yet to grad..but its ok. I dun regret my choice..i like smu’s branding..and the experience..so far. Graduating early doesn’t mean u’r closer to ur career goals anyway. Depending on what ur goals are. Mine is better off with me takin my degree slowly..so that’s what I’m doin.

After dinner..we headed to Balaclava where the Unxpected was playing. For the first time in 3 yrs…I’ve finally caught up with may. She studyin in NTU now..doin English..yes…english..haha. Seems like she’s gonna stay in the teaching line for the long foreseeable future.

I have to say qiang n wendy really suck in the ‘number guessin games’ man. Qiang drank all the forfeit of himself and his gf..n all in all..he drank like 80% of all the booz we bought. Either he’s damn lousy in the game..or he’s damn cheap stake..wanna keep all the booz to himself. Lol.

Wind (yes..thats his real name) joined us towards e end and may took off with him. They have been tgt for 8 years already ok. 8 freakin years. How envy. Haha..its sweet u know..to be able to last dat long with someone. Some ppl dun even last 8 mths man…

The rest of us headed to river valley for supper. There was only one tight parkin lot when we got there and Qiang jus had to challenge my parallel parking skills…sayin e car is too big to fit in..And I did it in one smooth attempt to prove him dat Singaporeans can drive too! Those m’sians..always lookin down on our driving..haha. In any case..i wasn’t the one who drove into a big drain in msia..haha..

Exams are over!

The moment exams was over..we jason n I headed down to Ice Cold…to grab ice cold drinks..not cos we love stayin in sch..but it happened to be flooding that day. Flooding really bad. Orchard was affected and the stores there were not spared either. Daddy even had to claim insurance for loss of income and stuff for that day cos they jus couldn’t operate in the floods.

Exams ended on wed for me..and I found myself drinking on thurs, fri and sat. Not that I’m a alcoholic..i’m not. Some days I was dragged there..some days..i was jus plain troubled with stuff.

Yes, I look happy. Even happy ppl have probs. I jus dun like to show it. Beneath the happy face is a dark individual.

Endless Mugging

There’s nth much I wanna say for the week plus that I was ploughin away in my books except that I was in sch 7 out of 7 days a week. N on many occasions, I went home jus to shower…n den drove rite bac to sch. That’s not how hardworking I am…but how last minute. Was slacking too much during the term…looking at other things like trading rather than studying. Not that I really regret it…I don’t.

Trading is what I wanna do and till something becomes ur passion..u’ll nv excel in it. No top sportsmen, chef, musician or professional dislike their own job. And trading is the same. Haha. I sound religious in this but…I am.

Starry Night

It was the time of the term again..yes..Friday b4 the study week…one of the events I look forward to the most in each term calendar. It was a pity I had to go late cos MA meeting dragged like forever. The moment I got there…I purchased some lager…went to meet up ze yan and co. and headed str to the mosh pit. There’s only one place to be in a concert. If you ain’t moshing, you ain’t enjoying.

I was quite surprised and puzzled as to why jamiel’s band was scheduled as one of the earlier bands..esp when the last band to play was a jazz band. No disrespect to the genre..but I tink jazz is not the ideal way to end. Neither will it be a good way to start. I tink jazz is best if left in the middle of the event as ppl chill n groove down.

I only took one video..cos..it was much more fun to be in the pit...den be takin videos of e pit..lol..

But on the whole..every band was good. There was an Indian band that played linkin park’s Numb which was pretty cool. Still one of my fav n most performed songs. As e singer lowered his body towards the mosh pit to share the mic with some of the ppl in the mosh pit, Alvin who was there den..snatched the mic over..n started singing in the pit. We were like “oh my god…”.

N he den went back on stage to sing the rest of the song like it was his band. It was a good thing the front man of that band was cool abt things…they muz have rehearsed it umpteen times. Not everyone is that cool abt things. But I wanted to hear his range on that song though..too bad we all couldn’t.

Virtuoso Semi Finals ‘07

After e somewhat impromptu guest performance with Melvin at the Red Bull Monster Bash…he asked me if I would like to perform with them in Virtuoso…and I was… “why not?”.

Took us abt 3 to 4 days to brain storm ideas…rearrange..fine tune..till we were ready. Alvin also roped me in for his performance..so I was involved in 2 performance at the Semi Finals.

On the actual day..we had to arrive by 1 plus in the afternoon for sound checks and endless photo shoot session which was pretty fun! The photographer got us to ‘chu’ loads of pattern man. It was damn funny…

The judges (cant rem their names) had some pretty mean comments to make to some of the contestants! I guess it was to make the show interesting. The semi finals was held at Bukit Panjang Plaza and subjected to public’s viewing.

We (Alvin n co) played a 4 piece acoustic version of ‘Boston’. ‘We’ included another guitarist and drummer. The day itself was the first time that I’ve met them…let alone play with them! But it took us less than a min to gel. What can I say? When good musicians come tgt…lol. But seriously..they were good…n I tink we sounded pretty gd for the actual performance. Considering it was the first thing the judges pointed out…and it was all compliments. I guess we were good!

But for my main performance…which was with Ben and Melvin, we mixed songs both English and mandarin which had e same chord progressions and it was very entertaining! *self praise*. I wun forget their expressions when we played..haha. We’re registered as ‘Lego Brothers’ (I din hav a hand in this) and we chose songs that were very suitable for the heart lands…afterall..we were in the heartlands.

We started with an emo version of the Chinese song ‘xiao wei’ which floored the jaws of the judges cos it was such a cheesy song. It then suddenly kicked into hyper mode as we stepped up the tempo…which sent the crowd into amazement..cos e way we did it was damn funny. We only did the verse for Xiao Wei (cos the chorus din fit in) which sang abt her charming eyes etc…and den we stopped singing. With background music provided by me…Melvin went on to say “你们知道吗？小蔚其实是个。。。” ß (Do you know? Xiao Wei is actually a…)

That’s where ben and I came in with… “Beautiful girl…that’s why it will never work..you’ll have me suicidal..suicidal when you say its over~” and e transition sounded perfect! Afterall we spent some time rearranging the verse etc. We then gone on to perform a modified version of the song. Performing with Melvin and Ben was awesome!

At the end of the day…contestants had to come tgt at the front of the stage during the announcement of the results. They would announce the contestants that made it to the finals one by one…n those who made it..will go on the stage..

N I dunno if it was coincidental..but both my performances were the last to be announced..in the respective category. So shitty man..haha..to be standing there…knowin there’s only one slot left..n prayin its u..haha.
