Business Study Mission to Scandinavia

I know i know..this blog is covered with dust n is almost ready to be buried. haha..been busy as well as lazy to update..shall start with e summers..

went on a BSM trip with e sch to Scandinavia to visit various companies in the region. btw..did u know that all member ctries of Scandinavia is within the top 15 ctries in e world to do business in??

We flew from Singapore to Amsterdam to catch a transit flight to Stockholm onboard the KLM. I know ur reaction.. "K-L-What?? is it malaysia one? Kuala-Lumpur-Malaysia?" i've nv heard of them b4 too..till the BSM..its a dutch airline. And u prob haven heard of em for a gd reason..

they're not top notch in anyway..haha..but they were e cheapest though..

n u'd tink spore had lots of street signs..

We arrived on a sunday..n it was pretty much sight seeing for that day..and we visited e Vasa Museum..about a warship dat was built by one of e historic swedish king..which boasted all kinds of capabilities and beauty from sculptures..onli for it to be sank within 15 minutes off it's first voyage due to overloading of canons and gun powder. -_-'.

But e museum was pretty cool as the entire museum was built ard the remains of e wreckage aft it was hauled up from the sea.

so regretted it..there were half priced hotdogs down e streets

Meet @ Swedish Ambassador's Home

The Swedish Ambassador invited us to his place for a warm reception last wed and we were really grateful for e opportunity.

Although it was a little ulu, located at Andrew Road (near media corp), the mansion (which belonged to e embassy of sweden) was huge and beautiful!

Gardens...private pool...

Entering the walkway, we were greeted by e male house servants (which were locals!). I'm not sure if i hav met a local servant b4 (let alone male)...but they are all young, educated and really polite!

e place was filled with beautiful candles and swedish designed furnitures...
even e toilet was posh!..which resembled those u hav in hotels...with face towels provided etc..

There were a variety of ppl dat was invited to the event so dat we can hav a good round of interactions...from head of science research..to venture capitalists focusing on swedish brands..to even swedish undergrads interning in e embassy in Singapore.

We were treated to danish and swedish delights at the mansion...open sandwiches etc...prepared by a danish chef who was jus flown into Singapore to prepare meals for e ambassador..(wad great living!)..n e food was needless to say..fantastic!...we were treated to unlimited Lakerol too...they are of cos...swedish..lol..

i didn't take pics when we were in there..since it was an official SMU event with external parties..wouldnt hav reflected well.

we realli learnt a great deal at these exchanges and though e course is expensive..it is definitely worth it!
In e interaction with e undergrads frm sweden..i learnt something incredible! I was aware that their tax rates were abt 50% (n u thot spore tax was high!)...but wad i did not know was dat when we stay in a hostel/hotel in the city..we pay e hotel fees, service charges..And....CITY TAX! I was.."wad's city tax?" n they explained..u have to pay..for entering the city...

n i was amazed!..i felt like i was a car!..with a inbuilt cashcard unit..n i'm being charged ERP..*di-di*(buzz from IU)*

but of cos..dat wasnt e gist of wad we learnt. there was alot alot of differences in e ppl n biz environment dat even after projects n research...we werent able to discover till u speak to ppl there. Cant wait to experience it first hand when i'm there!

Prior to this session, we also met up with the danish ambassador previously and courtesy of some research by naresh...we found out dat e ministry did a brief write up abt us!

SMU week 12!

11 straight days, 3 straight public hols

School has become my..second first home for the past 2 weeks! When I haven supper-ed in more than a week..u know something is wrong. Last week was e most packed! Starting from thurs nite..we were already over at clarence’s place..rushin our corp reporting forecast…n valuation models. If u’r not required to take corp reportin..dun! At the same time..we had to rush FIIM final report and slides too.

Here’s how I spent my last 7 days…

Thurs nite (eve of Public Hol) – Project @ clarence’s

Fri (Public Hol) – Project @ school

Sat (Public Hol) – Project @ school

Sun (Public Hol) – Project @ school

Mon – Project @ school (FIIM submission @ 5pm)

Tue – Project @ school (Cum bring slping bag to stayover)

Wed – Corp reporting submission at 10am.

However…I still manage to catch the match at Ice Cold (pub in SMU) of Man U vs Liverpool…cos..thats one no one shud ever miss! Haha..n yes yes..

Man Utd 3 – 0 Liverpool! WAhahahha…

Andy (Liverfool fan)…I hate to say..i told u so…u had it coming for taunting!

During the craze period..i noticed…everytime I ride with clarence n wy…we witness an accident! EVERYTIME. During one of e accidents…we stopped at e junction cos it was red..n upon seeing the crash…e first thing Weiyuan did..was to take out the camera…Lol. For 4-D numbers..haha..

For those whom I haven told..i’ll be going to Scandinavia this summer! Whoohoo…quite excited to go..haven been to Europe. The whole trip will see us cover Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and a tiny whinie bit of Holland. Sweden n Denmark are official school trips..e rest..r extensions that we planned ourselves..

N e best thing abt it is that… ITS EURO 2008! Austria-Switzerland r joint host..n I’m gonna be in Swiss! Hoo hoo..

N cos we need to confirm air ticket dates..we had to decide where to go n how long to stay…n cos of dat..i met zy at bedok @ 4am! To discuss e travelin plans. While discussin at mac…we spotted this lady..who is a pro at slping!

I thot I was gd at slpin…I tink..i hav met my match..lol…
